Edgar Leon Lyon, 90, of Burlington, died at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center in Burlington. Born October 15, 1917, in Girard, Kan., he was the son of Roy and Edith May Thompson Lyon. On December 20, 1941, he married Elsie M. Abendroth in West Burlington. Mr. Lyon worked as a storage operator at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 32 years. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and V.F.W. Post 10102. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Betty Harris of Ladson, S.C.; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by one daughter, his parents, one brother and one sister. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Lyon will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for V.F.W. Post 10102 and The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
