Elsie M. Lyon, 89, of Burlington, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born February 28, 1920, in Davenport, she was the daughter of Edward and Kate Weedon Abendroth. On December 20, 1941, she married Edgar L. Lyon in West Burlington. He died July 1, 2008. Mrs. Lyon was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, VFW Post 10102 Auxiliary and a former member of Eagles 150 Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and cross stitch. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Harris of Ladson, S.C.; one grandchild; and one sister, Marcella "Sally" Duffield of West Burlington. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, her parents, and one brother. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Lyon will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and St. Paul United Church of Christ.
