Katherine L. Lunsman, 66, of West Burlington, died at 11:04 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born August 6, 1941, in Titonka, Kossuth County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ralph and Mabel Christiansen Harms. On November 1, 1972, she married Kenneth E. Lunsman in Spencer. He preceded her in death on October 5, 2007. Mrs. Lunsman's parents farmed near Emmetsburg and she attended school in Ruthven, where she was a 1959 graduate of Ruthven High School. She then attended Mankato Business College. She worked at Farmer's Bank and Trust in Spencer, Iowa until 1975. She and her husband owned and operated a Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Heron Lake, Minnesota and Adrian from 1975 until 1982. She volunteered as a teacher's aide in the Burlington School System and worked as a certified nurse's assistant for Home Health Care. In May of 1984 she and her husband adopted Kraig and Kristel through Children's Home Society of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mrs. Lunsman enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. Survivors include her two children, Kraig E. Lunsman and Kristel L. Lunsman, both of West Burlington; one brother, Cecil (Lucille) Harms of Freeport, Minnesota; two nephews; one niece; seven great nephews and nieces; two sisters-in-law, Karen (Lynn) Wee of Spencer and Bev Lunsman of Mason City; and an aunt, Alice Christensen of Emmetsburg. Her husband, parents and one sister, Diane Harms, preceded her in death. Friends may call from noon until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21st, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Lunsman will be Thursday, May 22nd, at 1:00 p.m. in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Cindy Ford Breed, E.L.C. Chaplain of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
