Lloyd Walter Lucas, 81, of Burlington, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial, Ormond Beach, Fla. Born April 16, 1925, he was the son of Harry and Stella Lucas of Sperry. He married Loisanne Pfau. She preceded him in death. Mr. Lucas was a retired truck driver for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Special Operations as a Sergeant Squad Leader in the 103rd Infantry Division. He moved to Florida to live near his daughter, who was his caretaker. Mr. Lucas was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dodgeville, an honorary member of the Flagler Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102, American Legion and Disabled Veterans. He enjoyed riding around Flagler Beach in his electric cart, liked the pier, telling stories and singing to all the people he met. He also enjoyed traveling with his daughter to Disney World and the state fair. Survivors include one daughter, Diane Lucas Wood; one son, Rick Lucas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Allan Lucas of Crawfordsville, Marvin Lucas of Thomson, IL, and Russell Lucas of West Burlington; three sisters, Marcille Walker of Flagler Beach, Fla., Erma Baker and Shirley Granaman, both of Sperry. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son and one grandson. Memorial services for Mr. Lucas will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Community Memorial Church in Flagler Beach. Burial will be February 23rd in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. A memorial has been established for the Flagler Beach Volunteer Fire Department.
