Martha Mae Ballinger, 86, of Burlington, died at 5:15 am Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan. 2, 1921 in Stuart, she was the daughter of Oscar George and Della May Moore Carpenter. On Jan. 11, 1938, she married Len Pearl Ballinger in Adel. He died June 8, 1987.
She was a homemaker. She worked 12 years as a health aide, for eight years at Sterzing Foods and then at National Research Bureau for three years. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and it’s Rebecca Church Circle, Senior Saints, and Golden Oldies. She loved to play cards, flowers, cardinals, dancing, and crocheting. She loved to cook, especially homemade donuts.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Stout of Grimes; four sons, Carl Ballinger of High Ridge, Mo., Leslie Ballinger of Burlington, Mark Ballinger of Washington, Ill. And David Ballinger of Burlington; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and three sisters, Alis Francis of Perry, Mary Sherlock of California and Velma Sheldahl of Menlo.
Her husband, parents, six sisters, and two brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 8 am until 8 pm Thursday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm.
The funeral for Mrs. Ballinger will be at 2 pm Friday in Bethany Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Carl Engstrom officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Bethany Lutheran Church.
