Hazel Marie Lord, 104, of Burlington, died at 3:48 am Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Burlington.
Born March 11, 1911, in New London, IA, she was the daughter of James Preston and Birdie Marie Jacoba Stucker. On January 25, 1935, she married Joseph Milton Lord in Grand Island, NE. He died on May 21, 1996.
Hazel graduated from the Burlington Hospital School of Nursing. She was a nursing supervisor at the hospital for 35 years and an R.N. Supervisor at the Ordinance Plant.
She was a member of the New London Country Club, Carthage Lake Club, Jane Delano Circle of 1 and the Nurses Association. She was a 50 year member of the West Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, watching birds and painting pottery.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon (Douglass) Smith of Hot Springs Village, AR; two sons, Joe (Judy) Lord, Jr. of Buffalo Creek, CO and Dan (Lorelei) Lord of Boerne, TX; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul & Howard Stucker; and four sisters, Fern Noble, June Callaway, Grace Mathews, and Joy White.
Visitation will be from one hour prior to the service, 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM, Friday, December 18, 2015, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Lord will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 18, 2015, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend David Bracht-Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for West Hill United Methodist Church.
