Harold William Loose, 87, of Burlington died at 12:29 AM Saturday, August 5, 2006, at Great River Medical Center Born November 16, 1918 in Burlington, he was the son of Albert and Helen Johnson Loose. On May 29, 1942, he married Ozetta Wagler in Burlington. Mr. Loose was a graduate of Burlington High School. He completed Army signal school training at Des Moines, IA, and Camp Kobler, CA; he then completed Radar Systems training at the University of Colorado. Harold was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Signal Corps as a Staff Sergeant, he served in the Elite 23rd Headquarters, Special Troops, the Army's first massive tactical deception operation in Europe; he served as a Cryptologic Message Center Chief, supervising 25 enlistees and providing de-coded communications directly to general Omar Bradley; he received combat credit for the following campaigns: Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. He was awarded the European African-Middle Eastern Campaign badge, The Rifle Marksman badge, and the Good Conduct medal Mr. Loose was a Senior Weapons Inspector, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, with the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant until his retirement in 1974. Following his retirement he worked as an associate at Pioneer Supply Co. in Burlington. He was a life-long member of First United Church of Christ in Burlington. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; the American Association of Retired Persons; and Burlington Civic Music. He was a former member of the Eagle Service Organization His interests included time with beloved family, reading, church activities, golf, table tennis and throwing horseshoes. Mr. Loose was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and followed their football and basketball competitions with great enjoyment. Survivors include his wife Ozetta Loose of Burlington; one son Greg Loose and his wife Sandra of Woodbridge, Virginia; two grandchildren Michelle E. Schrotz and Scott A. Loose; and one brother Donald Loose. His parents, two sisters Margaret Stigge, and Arlene Loose (in infancy); two brothers Eugene Loose and Dale Loose (in infancy) preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to the First United Church of Christ.
