Marian Doris Long, 83, of Burlington died at 2:00 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born February 2, 1925, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Chester W. and Pauline Mack Mason. On October 28, 1947, she married Lorenz "Barney" Long in West Burlington. He died December 2, 1994. Mrs. Long was a homemaker. and was employed in the offices of the former Klein's Ready to Wear. She was also a bookkeeper for Oak Street Baptist Church for nine years, retiring in 1988. She was a 1943 graduate of Burlington High School and was a lifelong member of SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society, where she was treasurer for five years, and auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. She also counted money for the parish and numerous other functions of the church, and enjoyed following Cubs baseball. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Sirois of Fort Madison, and Patty Kipp of Burlington; four grandchildren; and two brothers, LeRoy Mason of Wisconsin, and Richard Mason of Florida. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. Visitation will be from noon to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Long will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Steinle officiating. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church.
