Phyllis J. Long, 77, of Yuma, AZ, died October 8, 2008, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa, following an extended battle with cancer. Survivors include her children Robert E. Long and wife Cindy of Atlanta, GA; Thomas E. Long and wife Darlene of Clear Lake; Kenneth D. Long and wife Deborah of Clear Lake; and Peggy A. Backen and husband John of Holly Springs, MS; 7 grandchildren; sister Candy Wood and husband Craig of Cedar Rapids; and brother Don Edwards of Istanbul, Turkey. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents. Phyllis Jeanne Long was born December 27, 1930, in Champaign, IL, the daughter of Donald M. and Lorena (Holland) Edwards. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Long on June 14, 1951, in Burlington, Iowa. She was employed as a secretary for many years at the Juvenile Home in Toledo, IA. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Yuma, and the Lady Elk's. She enjoyed playing dominos with her club, church activities, and was an avid reader. Above all, she enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
