Raymond Peter Balkema, 78, of 735 Blackhawk Dr., died Thursday, May 10, at his home following a brief illness.
He was born June 18, 1900, at Sioux City, the son of Nick and Clara Balkema. He married Clare E. Jolley at Macomb, Ill.; she died in 1965.
He served as a lieutenant colonel, was a lawyer and retired IRS agent, and was a member of the United Presbyterian church.
Surviving; Two daughters, Mrs. Mary Zockler, Ottumwa, and Mrs. Phyllis Smith, Minneapolis, Minn.; brother, Clayton, Cherokee; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Shuetz, Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. Florence Snow, Sioux City; five grandchildren.
Graveside services; 3:30 pm Saturday, Aspen Grove Cemetery, Rev. Harold Haskins. The body is at Prugh’s chapel.
