Carla E. Lindstadt Wehrle, 41, of Burlington, died Thursday evening, Sept.7, 2000, at her home. Born Oct. 17, 1958 in Burlington she was the daughter of Carl Allen and Clara K. Hunter Lindstadt. Ms. Wehrle was a secretary for WasteManagement in Burlington for two years. She was a graduate of Burlington High School. She was a member of the Church of the Open Bible of Burlington, was a past Girl Scout leader, homemaker, enjoyed bowling and was involved with anything the children would do. Survivors include two daughters, Shylah Wehrle of Ames and Stacy Wehrle of Burlington; one son, Lucas Wehrle, of Burlington; her mother of Burlington; and two brothers, Stephen Thomas Lindstadt of Burlington, and Stanley R. Lindstadt of Sterling, Colo. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Ms. Wehrle will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church of Burlington, with the Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the children's education and American Kidney Foundation.
The funeral service for Carla E. Lindstadt Wehrle, 41 who died Thursday, September 7, 2000, will be today in Messiah Lutheran Church at 10:00 AM. Reverend Bill Hornbeck will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the American Kidney Foundation and for her children's education.
Des Moines County authorities late Thursday were called to the scene of a possible murder-suicide. Sgt. Larry Wheeler of the Des Moines County Sheriff's office confirmed Mark and Carla Wehrle died of gunshot wounds in the upstairs bedroom of her 5472 C Avenue home, just south of Burlington off Madison avenue. At press time, however, Wheeler said no official ruling had been made on the deaths. Police continue to investigate the incident. Authorities said they were called to the home about 10:30 p.m. Carla Wehrle's mother, Clara Lindstadt, who also lives at the C Avenue home, was there at the time of the shootings and said she saw Mark Wehrle with a pistol shortly before hearing shots fired. An emotional Lindstadt said Mark Wehrle was at the home visiting his 16 year old daughter, The couple, both of whom were in their early 40s, divorce in April, Lindstadt said. in addition to the 16 year old daughter, the couple also has a 17 year old son and 20 year old daughter, she said.
