Elizabeth C. Liby, 88, of Iowa City and formerly of Burlington, died at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Windmill Manor Hospice in Coralville. Born December 16, 1920, in Ingomar, Mont., she was the daughter of James Henry and Cora Mae Beere Elting. On October 23, 1954, she married James Edward Liby in Burlington. He died September 8, 1986. Mrs. Liby was a homemaker. She was a member of King's Daughters, Rheda Coates Circle, and Women of the Moose. She enjoyed jewelry, humor, and her Raggedy Ann collection. Survivors include two sons, William Schiefer of Iowa City, and James Schiefer of Littleton, Colo.; one daughter, Lora Buelow of South Carolina; one stepson, David Liby of Texas; eight grandchilden; and 11 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, her parents, four brothers and four sisters. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. The funeral for Mrs. Liby will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
