Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Bonnie J. Martin, 82, a resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. The family invites you to join them for a prayer service at 4 p.m. to begin the visitation. Mrs. Martin died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus. Bonnie Jean Esau was born March 24, 1926, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Albert Esau and Elizabeth Jane Gillies. She was united in marriage to John D. Martin on December 26, 1943, in Burlington. They shared over 54 years of marriage and memories together. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1998. Bonnie was primarily a homemaker, taking care of her four children. She was an avid bridge player, playing at least three days a week. In her later years, she took great joy in teaching her grandchildren and great- grandchildren card games. Bonnie was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, a former member of the Daughters of Isabella, and the Q.C. Bridge Association. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Amenity Hospice or St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Survivors include her children, Thomas (Evelyn) Martin, Walcott; Katherine Pettit, Batesville, Arkansas; Theresa M. (Kyle) Olson, Davenport; and Mary J. Blackwell, Killeen, Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grand- children. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, three brothers, and her parents.
