Georgia G. Leyes, 84, of Burlington, died at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at her home. Born Dec. 5, 1915, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George and Anna Hansen Warner. She married Maurice H. Leyes on Nov. 17, 1934, in Burlington. He died Sept. 4, 1995. Mrs. Leyes was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and baking, and making afghans for all of her family members. Survivors include two daughters, Maureen Lagomarcino of Arlington, Va., and Karen Sloan of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Zimmerman of Des Moines. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Leyes will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
