Bryan H. Lewis, 86, of West Burlington, Iowa, died at Great River Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa, on Sunday afternoon, October 6, 2013.
Born on September 5, 1927 in Quincy, Illinois, he was the son of Bryan S. and Fosta Hawkins Lewis. He married Lois Martin in 1949 they later divorced. He married Betty Harris Shellabarger on June 6, 1972 in Burlington, Iowa. She died on February 21, 2012.
Bryan graduated from Quincy High School and Southeastern Community College. He served in the Army Air Force. He worked as a bio-medical engineer at Burlington Medical Center. Bryan was past president of the Burlington Eagles Club. Bryan loved woodworking and built collectable shelves for most of the family. He also made trains, cars and tractors for most of his grandchildren. He loved camping and fishing with his family and friends. Bryan also enjoyed dancing and building computers. He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by one son, Mike Lewis of West Burlington, Iowa; three daughters, Cindy Garrels of Wever, Iowa, Becky (Rick) Buford of Sherrard, Illinois and Deanna Thele of Burlington, Iowa; two step-daughters, Cindy (Mike) Daily Thompson of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Carol (Tom) Crow of Springfield, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 11step-great-grandchildren; one brother Charles (Peggy) Lewis of Springfield, Illinois; one sister, Eunice Lewis of Burlington, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; one son-in-law, David Garrels; step-son-in-law, Mike Daily; and one step-son, Bill Shellabarger.
Graveside Committal Services for Bryan H. Lewis will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor David Plooster will officiate.
Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The family will receive friends at Prugh’s Chapel one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
