Linnea Marie Lemon, 93, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Great River Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa, on Wednesday, November 27, 2013.
Born on July 23, 1920 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of G. Ferdinand and Lulu Belle Bauman Sheagren. She married Frank A. Lemon on June 24, 1939 in Winfield, Iowa. He died on April 18, 1999.
Linnea was a 1938 graduate of Burlington High School, a homemaker and lifelong Burlington resident. Along with her husband Frank, they owned and operated a downtown hardware store for many years. She enjoyed being active in class reunions, luncheons and dancing at the Steamboat Center. She thoroughly enjoyed organizing and participating in family reunions. She also enjoyed writing letters and collecting family anecdotes and antiques.
She was a member of Golden Oldies, Good Earth Organic Gardening Club and the New Hope Community Church. She volunteered for the Historical Society and Great River Klein Center. She was an RSVP member who volunteered at Black Hawk School.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Lee) Siperly of Hinesville, Georgia; four sons, Philip (Fran) Lemon of Sarasota, Florida, David (Sherry) Lemon of Greenback, Tennessee, Robert (Marilyn) Lemon of Burlington, Iowa and Steven (Sue) Lemon of Dubuque, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, Sheri, Holly, Tammy, Nanette, Tim, Jennifer, Jill, Doug, Dan, Troy, Brian, Amy, Craig, Paul, Joe, Dan and Rachel; 23 great-grandchildren, Garret, Jason, Ashley, Austin, Alex, Gabrielle, Rebecca, Andy, Erin, Jenna, Corey, Luke, Julie, Jack, Elijah, Elvis, Alberi, Penelope, Samantha, Michael, Owen, Amelia and James; and special friend, Kathy Drafahl.
Memorial services for Linnea Marie Lemon will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Community Church, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Myron Crockett will officiate. Interment of ashes will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Golden Oldies, Des Moines County Historical Society and New Hope Community Church.
