Marcia M. Barker, 68, of Burlington, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2008, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Monday, August 19, 1940, in Burlington, she was the daughter of LeRoy L. and Harriet Marie Neff Rust. On August 23, 1959, she married Bruce B. Barker in Burlington. She was a Job Training Supervisor for children with special needs at the Burlington School District. She also was a hairdesser for many years. She was a 1958 graduate of Burlington High School. She was an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she was a youth group leader for high school age children. She was on the Board of the Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County, and served on the Scholarship Committee. She was also a member of the Steel Magnolia's Club. She enjoyed flower gardening, attending her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews' events. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Bruce, of Burlington; one son, Kevin Barker of Des Moines; one daughter, Kelli (Jim) Bonar of Burlington; four grandchildren, Kate Bonar, Tony Bonar, Clint Bonar, and Paige Barker; one sister, Linda (Charles) Walsh of Burlington; five nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Larry Rust, and two sons, Brad Lee Barker and Kyle S. Barker. Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 p.m., with the family to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The Funeral Service for Mrs. Barker will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2008, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with the Reverend Tom Smith officiating. Inerment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetry. A memorial has been established.
