Mary James Lee, 90, of Robinson Heights, Burlington, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center. Born June 6, 1908, in Pulaski, she was the daughter of the Rev. Aaron and Nellie Behrens James. On March 18, 1950, she married Everett C. Lee in Burlington. He died August 22, 1983. Mrs. Lee graduated from Crawfordsville High School in Crawfordsville, and attended Parsons College in Fairfield. She worked for Apps Music House, and Riepe Peterson Clothing Store in Burlington. She was a member and past president of AARP Senior Citizens and delegate to the Iowa Senior Citizen's legislature, member St. Luke United Church of Christ, Burlington, Golden Oldies, Silver Singers, RSVP volunteer, and Hawkeye Natives. She was a Des Moines County Senior Spelling Bee champion. She enjoyed music, and had played the violin through her college years. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ruth Phillips of Gardnerville, Nev.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grand- children; four great-great-grandchildren; and one niece. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, one sister, and one niece. Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. The funeral for Mrs. Lee will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Selberg officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
