Obituary
Twilla Leaming, 64, of Burlington, died at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born on Leap Day, February 29, 1948 in Oelwein, Iowa, she was the daughter of Clarence William Pries and Maxine M. Staub. On May 9, 1980 she married Chuck Leaming in Burlington. Twilla worked in retail for 10 years; she also worked as a CNA for Great River Medical Center - Klein Unit and for Eagles grocery store. She enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, boating, motorcycling, gardening, being outdoors and camping. Above all she enjoyed her time spent with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Chuck Leaming of Burlington; two sons, Doug (Amy) Vandiver of Burlington and Darrin (Sarah) Vandiver of North Carolina; one daughter, Dee Dee (Randy) Lair of Illinois; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; her mother, Maxine Taylor Green of Burlington; three sisters, Mary (Tim) Edgerly of Texas, Alma (Larry) Kirby of West Burlington and Terri (Chuck) Swanner of Burlington and one brother, LaVerne (Lori) Taylor of West Burlington. She was preceded in death by her father. The Celebration of Life for Twilla will be Monday, May 14th from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at West Burlington Christian Church. Pastor Doug Vandiver will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House, Great River Medical Center - Klein Center Alzheimer's Unit and the Great River Medical Center - Klein Center Activity Fund.
