Mrs. Marlene Margaret Mahoney, 70, of Burlington, died at 11:50 pm Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born September 28, 1941, in Darby, PA, she was the daughter of Herman and Margaret McCarthy Bertman. On January 9, 1965, she married Joseph Michael Mahoney, Jr. in Philadelphia, PA. Marlene worked as a secretary for General Electric for 25 years and retired in 1997.She was a 1959 graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic High School. She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. She loved to read, enjoyed cooking, watching the Young and the Restless soap opera and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Joseph (Kristen) Mahoney III of Des Moines, and Jack (Kei) Mahoney of Misawa, Japan; and three grandchildren, Shannon and Jenna Mahoney and Quinn Mahoney. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mrs. Mahoney will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 10, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Very Rev. Anthony J. Herold, V.F. officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the interment.
A memorial has been established for SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.
