Porteous "Joy" Genevieve Laue, 89, of Burlington, died at Great River Hospice House on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. Born on September 27, 1923 in Livonia, Missouri, she was the daughter of Floyd and Velma Wright Wheeler. She married Leo R. Laue on August 6, 1949 in Burlington, Iowa. Porteous loved her family especially her grandsons. She enjoyed caring for the children at the Jennie Coulter Day Nursery and taking trips with her husband to Hawaii, Florida, Nashville and Branson, MO. Her mind and memory were sharp and keen right up until the end. She liked nurturing her family, and she enjoyed country music. Porteous enjoyed the Elvis impersonator when he came to the nursing home. When she worked at the Iowa Soap Company, she got her nickname "Joy" because she was such a happy person. She is survived by her husband, Leo; one son, Steve (Marie) Laue of Normal, IL; two grandsons, Tom Laue of Urbana, IL and David Laue of Normal, IL; two brothers, Huey Wheeler of Fairfield, IA and Ron Wheeler of Burlington, IA; four sisters, Wanda Houston of Burlington, IA, Laura (Charles) Marshall of Stronghurst, IL, Donna Krieger of Burlington, IA, Sue Ives of Burlington, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Darwin, Myron, Charles, Gene and Jack; three sisters, Laviece Jackson, Mary Wheeler, and Gloria Gates. Funeral services for Porteous "Joy" Genevieve Laue will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Prugh's Chapel. Pastor Deb Kinney will officiate. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call on Sunday from 11:00 until 5:00 in Prugh's Chapel. A memorial has been established for Danville Care Center.
