Darlene Waring, of Burlington, died at 1:17 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born December 23, 1934, at Wapello, she was the daughter of C.T. "Ted" and Inez Tisor Lankford. On October 8, 1955, she married Kenneth Waring at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. Mrs. Waring was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1955 graduate of Burlington Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse. A member of Messiah Lutheran Church, she was active in the Sarah Circle, Alter Guild, Mission Committee and was a Sunday school teacher. She founded Piecemakers, which is a quilting group that is part of the Mission Committee. She also was a 4-H leader and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, gardening, flowers and writing poetry. Survivors include her husband Kenneth of Burlington; one son, Paul Waring of Burlington, three daughters, Brenda Waring of West Burlilngton, Lisa (David) Weiler of Danville, and Rebecca (Charles) Conn of Del City, Oklahoma; severn grandchildren; one brother Thomas "Tom" Lankford of Burlington; one sister, Marilyn "Susie" Timmerman of Dallas City, Illinois. Her parents preceded her in death. Visitation will be after 8:00 a.m. on Thursday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Waring will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Donald Hoornstra officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Messiah Lutheran Church Missions.
