Norval E. Baker, 78, 174 Golf Lane, died at 2:50 am Thursday, April 5, in his home. He was born March 3, 1895, in Omaha, Neb., the son of George and Susan Saddler Baker.
He married Ruth Peterson Nove. 2, 1921, in Burlington. She died in 1963. Baker was a petroleum geologist. He belonged to the First Congregational church, the Burlington Golf Club, the American Club of London, England, and the American Assn. of Petroleum Geologists. He was a life member of the Explorers Club of New York. Baker was graduated from the University of Iowa in 1917.
Baker worked for Standard Oil of New Jersey in South America. In 1934, he became chief geologist for Iraq Petroleum oil fields. During WWII, he served in the Office of Petroleum administration, retiring in 1952. After retirement, he was a consultant to major oil companies for several years. Baker moved to Burlington in 1965.
Surviving; One daughter, Martha Baker, and one son Robert both of Burlington; and 10 grandchildren.
