Maurice June "Jack" Baker, 76, of Burlington, died at 12:07 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Fort Madison Health Center in Fort Madison. Born June 11, 1933, he was the son of Roy Q. and Sarah Esther Dinger Baker. He was married and later divorced. Mr. Baker worked at Wabash Railroad, Burger King, and for many years at C & E Mattress Factory in Burlington. He was a Private First Class in the Army during the Korean War. He was affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed billiards, fishing, listening to music, and reading the Bible. Survivors include five sons, Morris Baker, Michael Baker, and Gary Baker, all of Burlington, Douglas Baker of Keosauqua and Kenneth Baker of Fort Madison; two daughters, Sarah Krieger and Juanita Baker, both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Royce Baker of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; four sisters, Esther Ebert of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Louise Waltz of Waverly, MO, Ruth Dockary of Kansas City, Kan., and Elaine Lints of Grand Prairie, Texas; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington, where family will receive friends. The funeral for Mr. Baker will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Willis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for Fort Madison Health Center.
