Jennie Elizabeth Kurrle, 99, formerly of Burlington, Iowa, died at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center, Mediapolis, Iowa, on Friday morning, July 12, 2013.
Born on November 17, 1913 in Lacon, Illinois, she was the daughter of Christian and Ellen Donnelly Long. She married James Otto Kurrle on November 22, 1930 in Burlington, Iowa. He died on April 8, 1994.
Jennie was a homemaker and her husband’s partner in the Kurrle Fish Market business. She was a member of the Everglades Community Church, Everglades City, Florida, where she and James would winter as “Snow Birds.” She was also a member of the Church of Open Bible.
She enjoyed her family, music, singing in the choir, fishing, sewing, baking, knitting, crafts, gardening, dancing, playing the piano, bird watching, caring for her flowers and being with her special pet and constant companion, Molly B. Jennie will be remembered for her quick smile and kindness to friends and family.
She is survived by one son, James E. (Leanne) Kurrle of Burlington, Iowa; one daughter, Jean Wood of Mediapolis, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; one son, John A. Kurrle Sr.; six sisters; and eight brothers.
Funeral services for Jennie Elizabeth Kurrle will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Prugh’s Chapel, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Dan Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.
Friends may call Monday afternoon with the family receiving friends on Monday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. in Prugh’s Chapel. A memorial has been established for Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center, Mediapolis, Iowa.
