Obituary

Doris Christine Kulp, 86, of Burlington died at 3:59 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Feb. 26, 1921, she was the daughter of Elmer John and Maude Anna Hanson Barnes. On Sept. 6, 1940, she married Harry William Kulp in Burlington. He died June 27, 1985. Mrs. Kulp was the minister of caring and calling for First Christian Church Disciples of Christ for 27 years. She was a member of the Lydia Circle, Women in Ministry Group and Professional Church Leaders of Burlington. She was nominated for Outstanding Woman of the Year award. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1939, where she was involved in activities. Survivors include three daughters, Carole Benton, Joyce Kulp and Christine Heyd, all of Burlington; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Retterath of Lidgerwood, N.D.; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Visitation with family will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. The funeral for Mrs. Kulp will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. A private family burial will be later in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First Christian Church Disciples of Christ Youth Ministries.
