Ruth Marie Kuechmann, 100, formerly of Burlington, died at Donnellson Health Center on Monday, August 16, 2010, at 11:20 p.m. Born on March 14, 1910, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ferd and Matilda "Tillie" Taeger Fehseke. She married John Henry Kuechmann on June 18, 1935, in Burlington, Iowa. He died on June 8, 1991. Ruth Marie graduated from Burlington High School, Burlington Junior College, and received her B.A. from Iowa Wesleyan College. She also did some post-graduate work at the University of Iowa. Initially she was a teacher in the country school system. She then became one of the first instructors at Hope Haven Area Development Center in the mid 1950s, and continued on until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and United Commercial Travelers. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, children, and fishing. She is survived by one son, Don L. (Karen M.) Kuechmann of Danville, Iowa; two grandsons, John Edward "Ted" (Abby) Kuechmann of West Burlington, Iowa, and Ryan Christopher Kuechmann of Danville, Iowa; one great- granddaughter, Kennedy Grace Kuechmann; one great-grandson, Carson James Kuechmann; three nephews, and one niece. She was preceded in death by her husband John; her parents; one brother; one sister; and one daughter Joann. Funeral Services for Ruth Marie Kuechmann will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Prugh's Chapel, Burlington, Iowa. Chaplain Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials have been established for Oak Street Baptist Church and Hope Haven Area Development Center.
