Obituary
Ken Krieger, 72, of Burlington, died at 6:01 am Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Born February 16, 1940, in Burlington, he was the son of Russell and Mildred Thomson Krieger. On October 26, 1958, he married Margaret Bowman in Burlington. Ken had been a milkman at Gustafson and Sunshine Dairy and a loader for Sweetheart Bakery. He also worked for the Des Moines Register, and delivered potato chips. For the last 30 years, he had collected and sold sports memorabilia. He was an avid Jeopardy watcher. In the 1960-1970's he was one of Burlington's top bowlers; he was the second in Burlington to score a 299. In 1960 he also raced stock cars at various local race tracks. He enjoyed yard sales, his baseball cards, and was a very big collector of many treasures. He was a huge Elvis fan. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; one son, Russell "Rusty" (Sarah) Krieger of Burlington; three daughters, Denise (Darryl) Rice of Mediapolis, and Tami (Robert) Frick and Brenda (Mitch) Parker, both of Burlington; 16 grandchildren, Niki, Amanda, Desiree, Colleen, Danny, Matthew, Kristin, Freddy, Kylee, Tamara, Alex, Abby, Olivia, and three of which he raised, Michelle, Tabitha and Barbara; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Garry. As per Ken's request cremation has been accorded. Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Thielen Funeral Home. The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Krieger will be 11:00 am Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial. A memorial has been established in memory of Ken.
