William Frank Krekel, 83, of Burlington, died at 5:42 PM Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
Born January 20, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of Kenneth J. and Ruth Krekel Edmark. On May 28, 1955, he married Carolee Ann Platt in Little Brown Church in Nashua.
William worked 32 years for Silas Mason, Mason and Hanger/American Ordinance, retiring in 1999.
He was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School and received an AA Degree from Burlington Junior College in 1955.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and also a member of the Federal Order of Eagles #150, Ducks Unlimited, and BHS Booster Club. He was a Hawkeye's, Vikings, and a Cardinals fan, also a supporter of the Burlington Grayhounds, never missing one of his kids' or grandkids' games. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and woodworking; leaving behind many pieces for his friends and family. He also enjoyed singing in a Barbershop Quartet, listening to Barbershop music, and playing the ukulele and banjo. But most of all, he enjoyed his kids, grandkids, and his family, which always came first.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William W. (Heidi ) Krekel of Springfield, IL, and James J. (Isabel) Krekel of Burlington; one daughter, Kelley S. (Roger) Cooper of Burlington; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father (Sam Edmark) and one daughter (Stacey Ann).
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM, on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The memorial service for Mr. Krekel will be Monday, October 30, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Ryan Cosgrove officiating. Private family burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
