Michael Arthur Koopman, 64, of Sedalia, Mo., died Wednesday morning, Sept. 1, 1999, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. Born July 30, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of Howard and Sally Williams Koopman. He married Donna Umphrey on July 2, 1977. Mr. Koopman was a 1953 graduate of Burlington High School, and was a member of the Army National Guard. He was a materials planner for Gardner-Denver for 19 years, and also worked for Craftman Press in Burlington. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Sedalia. He enjoyed woodworking, glass etching, and spending time at the lake with his family. He had lived in Sedalia for 22 years. Survivors include two stepsons, Scott Umphrey of Independence, Mo., and Steven Umphrey of Gladstone, Mo.; two daughters, Faye Murguia of North Liberty and Leslie Rebollo of Corona, Calif.; two sons, Michael and Thomas Koopman, both of California; his mother of Lincoln, Neb.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel in Sedalia, Mo. The funeral for Mr. Koopman will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Sedalia, Mo., with William Curwood and the Rev. Matthew Zimmermann officiating. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
