Obituary
Jerry M. Baity, 61, of West Burlington, died at 7:20 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born June 16, 1947, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Chester and Jane Holaday Baity. On October 6, 1984, he married Janet S. Messer in Mount Pleasant. Mr. Baity was a machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years. He was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Machinist Union Local 531 of Burlington. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in West Burlington. He was a former Boy Scout leader and Little League coach. He enjoyed reading, computers and watching sports. Survivors include his wife; one son, Brett Baity of West Burlington; two sisters, Jackie Ackles and Janis White, both of Mount Pleasant; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Baity will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rights. Memorials have been established for Burlington Public Library and St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
