Obituary

Malcolm E. Baird, 69, of 2701 Clearview Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, at his home following an extended illness with cancer.
Born Oct. 23, 1926, at Red Oak, he was the son of Frank and Anna Jack Baird. He married Verna R. Thomas on April 28, 1946, at Cairo.
He was a 1944 graduate of Wapello High School and as Army veteran of WWII. He moved to Burlington in 1953 when he became employed at the firm now known as McGladrey and Pullen. He became a certified public accountant in 1958, was made partner in 1959, and retired as the senior team partner in 1989.
Mr. Baird was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, a member of the Explorer Mariners of the church, the Jaycees of Burlington, the American Institute of CPAs, and the Iowa Society of SPAs, a former member of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, and had been a past president of the Rotary International of Burlington and the Burlington Library Board.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Verna; four daughters, Candy Stineman of Winfield, Phyllis Baird of Denver, Colo., Becky Wear of Burlington, and Jennifer Baird of Davenport; one son, Kevin Baird of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; and one brother, Stan Baird of Blue Lake, Calif.
Friends may call as they desire from 10 am to 4 pm Saturday at Hagele and Honts Funeral home in Mediapolis. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Burlington.
The funeral for Mr. Baird will be 10 am Monday at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington.
