Obituary
Mrs. Edna Mae Knotts, 87, formerly of Dodgeville and Mediapolis died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center where she had made her home since 2004.
Born May 4, 1925 in Burlington she was the daughter of Julius Reinhold and Sarah Knapp Gerst. On May 16, 1942 she married Wilbur Clarence Knotts Sr. in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 4, 2008.
During World War II Mrs. Knotts was a "Rosie the Riveter", working as a ship fitters helper at a California ship yard building Liberty Ships. She later worked as a cook at various restaurants.
Mrs. Knotts enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, camping and spending time with her family. When she was younger, she drove a stock car for Delmar Donnellson at Burlington Fair Grounds.
Survivors include two daughters, Frances E. Bartholomew and Linda Lee (Wayne) Haley both of Burlington; two sons, Wilbur C. (Carol) Knotts Jr. of Quincy, Illinois and Walter E. (Joan) Knotts of Beaverdale; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Ernest (Marlene) Gerst of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur; one grandchild, Teresa; one great-great grandchild, Tailor; son-in-law, Charlie; six brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, March 1st, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
The funeral service for Mrs. Knotts will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2nd, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Randall Gearhart officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for V.F.W. 10102 Women's Auxiliary to send care packages to our troops.
