Wilbur C. Knotts, Sr., 87, of Dodgeville, died at 9:47 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2008, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born December 13, 1920, in Burlington, he was the son of John E. Knotts and Frances Eileen Stewart Greene. On May 16, 1942, he married Edna Mae Gerst in Kahoka, MO. Mr. Knotts worked at Riley Brothers Oil, Burlington Northern Railroad, and Lake Iowa, was an atomic energy government inspector for IAAP and was an accountant at Bennett Home Center. He was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School and also graduated from Burlington Business College. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1942-1944 aboard the U.S.S. Rixie. He was a member of American Legion, V.F.W. Post 10102, Eagles Lodge Aerie 150, and Moose Lodge No. 579. He served as past commander of District l, All State Quartermaster, Post 2449 Service Officer of V.F.W. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Frances E. Bartholomew and Linda Lee Haley, both of Burlington; two sons, Wilbur C. Knotts, Jr. of Quincy, Ill., and Walter E. Knotts of Beaverdale; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two stepfathers, one brother, one sister, one grandchild and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Knotts will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Randall Gearhart officiating. Burial with military rites by Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Prairie Ridge Care Center of Mediapolis.
