John Fred Knopp, 85, of Shawnee, Okla., formerly of Burlington, died Saturday, Dec. 16,2006, at Unit North Hospital in Shawnee. Born Nov. 11,1921, in Burlington, he was the son of Jacob and Clara Theresa Schultz Knopp. He married Beverlee Rose Cooper on Aug. 31,1946, in Richmond, Mo. She died Nov. 8, 1996. He married Ophelia Doris Murray on Feb. 22, 1997, in Nashua. He was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School. He served in World War II with the Army Air Corp. He was a wholesale driver for Sunshine Dairy and Drake Hardware. He later was a driver for Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and a lifetime member of VFW Post 10102. He enjoyed traveling and visiting with people. Survivors include his wife, Ophelia; three daughters, Clara Johnson and Rita Hermann, both of Burlington, and Johna Harris of Sparks, Okla.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, four brothers and three sisters. The graveside committal service and inurnment for Mr. Knopp will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Gary L. Chapman officiating. As per the request of Mr. Knopp, his body has been cremated. Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
