Patricia Knopp, 80, formerly of Burlington, died of cancer Jan. 26, 2016, at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster, Ohio.
Born May 6, 1935, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Mae and Arthur Parris. On Aug. 21, 1954, she married Joseph Knopp in Keokuk; he predeceased her.
She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1953. In 1969, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa Wesleyan College and, in 1973, a master of science degree from the University of Iowa. She continued her studies in science education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
She taught biological sciences, first at Burlington High School from 1969 to 1980, then at the American International School in Kuwait from 1988 to 1989 and at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington from 1980 to 1995.
In 1996, she and her husband moved to Wayne County, Ohio, where she served as a deacon at Wayne Presbyterian Church. She also was vice president of the Wayne Township Housekeepers’ Club.
Survivors include three children, Lisa Knopp of Lincoln, Neb., James Knopp of Chardon, Ohio, and John Knopp of The Woodlands, Texas, and six grandchildren.
There will be a brief graveside ceremony for Mrs. Knopp at 11 a.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends are asked to join the family at the cemetery at the east side of Memory Gardens on Aspen Lane. There will be a gathering at noon Friday at the shelter house in Perkins Park after the graveside service. The family asks friends to bring food and a memory to share.
A memorial has been established for the SCC Foundation at Southeastern Community College, 1500 W. Agency Road, Box 180, West Burlington, Iowa 52655-0180.
