Duane H. Knak, 71, of Burlington, died at 9:00 AM Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born July 26, 1941, in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of Ernest and Edith Sheppard Knak. On November 1, 1969, he married Janice Andrew in Burlington. Duane was a Shelter Insurance agent for 38 years. He was a 1959 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving from 1963 until 1967. He was a very active member of Burlington Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Burlington Optimist Club. He enjoyed playing golf and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Janice, two daughters, Denise Knak of Burlington, and Nichole (Lee) Franklin of Burlington, three grandchildren, Rachel, Hannah, and Lydia; one brother, Ernie (Jan) Knak of Broken Arrow, OK; two nieces, Kandace Flatt and Jeanie Saville, and one nephew, Duane R. Knak. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory. The memorial service for Mr. Knak will be 4:00 PM Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Kendall Adams officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Burlington Baptist Church following the service. Private family burial at Aspen Grove Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Burlington Optimist Club, Great River Hospice, and Burlington Baptist Church.
