Mrs. Helen Louise Klopfenstein, 92, of Burlington died Monday, December 30, 2013, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born September 26, 1921 in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Cyrus and Etna Anderson Jordan. On March 30, 1947 she married Stace Edward Klopfenstein in Winfield. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2001. Mrs. Klopfenstein attended Willow Bank School and was a 1939 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She was employed by Gilland's Grocery Store, Hoaglin's Variety and Van's Lunch Box. She also worked for Mt. Pleasant Telephone Co., Henry County Auditor and was a cashier at the Temple Theatre. In Burlington she worked at JC Penney's and the Burlington Credit Bureau. Mrs. Klopfenstein was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Eagles and Moose Auxiliaries and Cotillion Dance Club. She loved to sew, play cards and dance. She did a lot of canning, enjoyed watching basketball and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include her three daughters, JoAnn (Tom) Robertson and Janet John both of Burlington and Linda (Gary) Marston of West Burlington; 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, and brother, Delbert "Bud" Lynn Jordan of Dubuque, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother Robert "Bob" L. Jordan. The funeral service for Mrs. Klopfenstein will be 11 a.m. today, January 2nd, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. Memorials have been established for Grace United Methodist Church and Great River Hospice.
