Obituary
Warren A. Kirby, 82, of Burlington, died Friday, August 8, 2003, at his residence. Born September 17, 1920, in Chareston, Ark., he was the son of Roy and Delores Irene Mantooth Kirby. On December 16, 1951, he married Pauline M. Swanson in Mediapolis. She died January 12, 2002. Mr. Kirby was employed by General Electric for 18 years, and by Winegard for 10 years. He was a member of Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church, a CB Club, and Mississippi Ramblers Camping Club. He was a volunteer at Burlington Medical Center and for RSVP by singing, playing guitar, harmonica and auto harp. He loved to garden and be outdoors. Survivors include four daughters, Sherry Fitzgibbon, Deborah McCandless, and Joyce Kirby, all of Burlington, and Vickie Brueck of Altoona; four sons, Dennis Kirby and Alan Kirby of Burlington, and Galen Kirby of Barrington, IL; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elizabeth Hiatt of Nebada, MO, and Alma Vean of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, and twin infant brothers. Visitation will begin after noon today at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Kirby will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Maurice Moore officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church.
