Richard W. Kienlen, 72, of Burlington, died at 6:40 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born July 31, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of William Charles and Ruth Ann Achenback Kienlen. On September 28, 1968, he married Bonnie J. Harrison in Moline, Ill. Mr. Kienlen was a machine operator for Champion Spark Plug in Cooper, Ind., for 42 years. He served in the Army. He was a member of UAW Local 1237 and a shuttle driver for Catfish Bend Casino. He was a board member of Des Moines County Special Needs Foundation and a volunteer driver for Meals On Wheels. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He enjoyed playing tennis, fast pitch softball and attending races at 34 Raceway. He volunteered on many community projects. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick Kienlen of Mount Pleasant and Richie Kienlen of Cleveland, Tenn.; three daughters, Shelly Givan of Ames, Lisa Nichols and Stacy McCampbell of Burlington; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Visitation will be after noon on today and 8 a.m. on Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. The funeral for Mr. Kienlen will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington, with the Rev. Donald Hoornstra officiating. The family will receive friends at the church two hours before the service. Burial will be at a later date. A memorial has been established.
