Margarete "Marge" L. Kerr, 81, of Burlington and formerly of New London, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009, at her home. Born June 1, 1927, in Greenfield in Adair County, she was the daughter of Hans Henry and Vivian Merle Higgins Christensen. On June 14, 1943, she married Max Kenneth Kerr in Kahoka, MO. He died March 9, 1989. Mrs. Kerr worked for 20 years as a bartender and club manager at the Western Club in Gulfport, IL. She worked at Sylvania in Burlington, owned and operated the Ponderosa in Burlington, managed the snack bar at Montgomery Ward's, and stayed with the elderly for Home Caring Services. She attended Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mount Pleasant, and was a member of Moose and Eagles auxiliaries. She enjoyed playing cards, pool, board games, crafts and cooking. Survivors include four daughters, Linda F. Goeke of Fort Madison, Diana R. Matt of Burlington, Sherry M. Manton of Houston, and Tammy G. DeYarman of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Clifford "Skip" and Larry, both of Greenfield, and Jim and Bill, both of Des Moines; one sister, Judy of Fontanelle; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, her parents, four brothers, and three sisters. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Kerr will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Monte Knudson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established.
