Roma Virginia Allsup Bacher, 95, of Burlington, died at 9 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2007, at Blair House in Burlington. Born on October 10, 1912, in Lowell, she was the daughter of William W. and Nellie Catherine Detrick Allsup. On August 8, 1940, she married Paul Hoefer Bacher in Burlington. He died in 2006. Mrs. Bacher was a teacher. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington Junior College (now Southeastern Community College). She attended teacher training classes at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She taught at Excelsior County School between New London and Mount Pleasant from 1932 to 1934. She taught second grade for six years at Prospect Hill School in Burlington. Mrs. Bacher loved children and established Top of the Hill Preschool at First United Church of Christ in 1967. She served as director and teacher at the school for 10 years. She instructed Sunday School classes at First United Church of Christ for 30 years. She was a member of Women's Fellowship and the Rebecca Circle. At the time of her death, she held the position of Elder Emeritus. She was a member of First United Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Kay (Larry) Dusenbery of St. Louis, MO, Nancy (Ron) Goodman of Ankeny; six grandchildren, Todd and Scott Dusenbery, Sara (Jack) Neuner, Aaron (Shane) Rucker, Adam Rucker, Adriyel Mondloch; and three great-grandchildren, Ashton and Hayden Rucker and Ethan Neuner. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Church of Christ in Burlington, where the family will receive friends. The funeral for Mrs. Bacher will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Church of Christ, with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
