Mrs. Edith Elmina Kerr, 98, of West Burlington died at 8:02 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born June 29, 1915 in Washington, she was the daughter of Walter W. and Katie (Rich) Jarrard. On June 13, 1937 she married Floyd "Tony" Kerr in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2002, just two weeks short of their 65th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Kerr grew up on a farm near Washington and was a 1933 graduate of Washington High School. As a farm girl, Edith did her share in the fields, tended neighboring families in their homes and later worked at Weng's Restaurant. After her marriage to "the ICE Man" they lived in Washington, Middletown and West Burlington. She was employed at Sylvania, Campbell Chain and over 20 years at Siegel's DX where she was bookkeeper. After retiring she and Floyd spent 15 years in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas where they made many friends through playing cards, square dancing and traveling. In 1995 they moved back to West Burlington where Edith lived until moving to Bickford Assisted Living for three days before a fall resulting in injuries which she requested no intervention. Edith was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church. She loved her home, her family, flowers and hummingbirds. Survivors include her four children, Joanne (Richard) Meth of Burlington, Gene (Bonnie) Kerr of Wildwood, Missouri, Jim (Jane) Kerr of Iowa City and Judy (Ernest) Pilkington of Gladstone, Illinois; 14 grandchildren, Kristi, Keith, Stacy, Steffany, Zach, Luke, Deena, Tony, Ben, Traci, Lauri, Lorri, Raylene and Dale; 23 ½ great grandchildren, Stacy, Darcy, Ryan, Andy, Megan, Addison, Hannah, Regan, Cody, Grahm, Thomas, Sam, Noah, Madelyn, Haley, Holly, Dillon, expected Baby Kerr, Justin, Sarah, Jason, Miranda, Tim and Johnothan; five great-great grandchildren, Parker, Raylee, Keaton, Colton and Connor; and one brother, Ed (Pauline) Jarrard of Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother Clarence and a sister at birth. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 29th, at Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Kerr will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with the Pastor Jon Warren officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and West Burlington United Methodist Church.
