Paul Hoefer Bacher, 96, of Burlington, died at 11:05 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2006, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. Born January 24, 1910, at 1014 North 8th Street, in Burlington, he was the son of Freeman and Emma R. Hoefer Bacher. On August 8, 1940, he married Roma V. Allsup in Burlington. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ for more than 50 yeas. He graduated from Burlington High School and Burlington Junior College and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Iowa in 1939. He received his Master's Degree in Chemical Science in 1941. He was elected to Phi Lambda Upsilon and the National Honor Society. He served as past president of the Tuberculosis Society of Burlington and the Executives Club. He belonged to the former United Commercial Travelers of Burlington. He was an ardent fisherman and a devoted grandfather who introduced that hobby to his grandchildren when they were very small. Survivors include his wife, Roma, of Burlington; two daughters, Kay (Larry) Dusenbery of St. Louis, Missouri, and Nancy (Ron) Goodman of Ankeny, Iowa; six grandchildren, Todd and Scott Dusenbery, Sara (Jack) Neuter, Aaron (Shane) Rucker and Adam Rucker and Adriyel Mondloch; and three great-grandchildren, Ashton and Hayden Rucker and Ethan Neuner. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and six sisters. Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate. A memorial has been established for the Great River Medical Center's Home Health Care.
