William "Bill" Bruce Kephart, 75, of Burlington, died at 8:47 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at his home. Born April 14, 1936, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Lawrence M. and Velma G. Ross Kephart. On April 21, 1962, he married Joyce Virginia Sly in Burlington. Mr. Kephart worked 30 years at Lehigh-Leopold Desk Co. packing desks for shipping. He also worked maintenance for Walmart. He was a member of Church of the Open Bible, Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club, and 21st Century Car Club in Mount Pleasant. He was a Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed hunting, car restoration, working with stained glass, camping, napping, and metal-sculpturing. Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Kephart II of Land-O-Lakes, Fla., and Barry Kephart of Houston; two daughters, Kimberly Maxam of Havelock, N.C., and Kathi Michelson of West Burlington; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington, where family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Kephart will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Open Bible, with the Rev. Kenneth Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A time of food and fellowship will be at Church of the Open Bible following burial. A memorial has been established for Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County.
