Obituary
Robert L. Kent, M.D., 74 of Burlington died at 8:05 AM Saturday, May 6, 2006, at his home after a 3½ year battle with breast cancer. Born December 4, 1931, in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of Henry David and Alice Hettmann Kent. On June 5, 1956, he married Kay Doyle in Dublin, Ireland Dr. Kent was an Obstetrics and Gynecology physician for over 42 years in Southeast Iowa. He retired in 2002. He earned his undergraduate and medical degree from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland in 1952 and 1956 respectively. He served his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and an active member of Des Moines County Medical Society. He served on the board at Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison and Burlington Medical Center. He was former Chief of Staff of Sacred Heart Hospital and Burlington Medical Center. He was a counselor for Iowa Medical Society since 1974, past President of Parents Club at Sacred Heart School in Fort Madison, and President of the Burlington Medical Center Staff Foundation. He was a member of the International Holiday Rambler Recreational Club for 35 years. He was an active member of the Great River Holiday Ramblers and the Quinsippi Holiday Ramblers RV Clubs, and Motley Crew Investment Club. Dr. Kent was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed classical music, photography and traveling in his motor-home having been to 48 states. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Kay; two sons, David L. (Diana) Kent of Davenport, IA, and Michael J. Kent of Ottumwa, IA; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Tim) Lynch of Avoca, IN, Jacqueline M. (John) Wahle of Wildwood, MO, and Marie F. Kent O‘Fallon, MO; eight grandchildren, Allison Kent, Colin Kent, Abby Kent, Katie Lynch, Kristan Lynch, Kim Lynch, Matthew Wahle, Kevin Wahle; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joan. Visitation will begin at noon, Wednesday, May 10, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The Funeral Mass for Dr. Kent will be 10:00 AM Thursday, May 11, at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf officiating. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Entombment will be in the family mausoleum at Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
