Henry Charles Bacher, 73 2531 Geredes Drive, a retired pharmacist, died at Memorial Hospital at 2:35 am Wednesday, Jan. 20.
He was born in Burlington, Feb 14, 1897, the son of Freeman O. and Emma Sophia Hoefer Bacher, and married Lydia Dudycha in Burlington, Aug 2, 1958.
Mr. Bacher owned and operated the Lincoln Avenue Pharmacy in Davenport from 1937 until 1955 when a robbery resulted in the death of his first wife, the former Lucile Haddix of Burlington. Mr. Bacher was seriously injured in the holdup.
He was a pharmacist at Mercy Hospital, Burlington from 1959 until retirement in 1962. In April 1970, he received an honorary 50-year certificate as a "registered pharmacist in good standing in Iowa," together with letters of commendation from Gov. Robert Ray and Paul Crews, secretary of the Iowa Pharmacy Examiners. Mr. Bacher was a registered pharmacist in both Iowa and Illinois.
A graduate of the Des Moines College of Pharmacy, Mr. Bacher was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Davenport, and BPOE No. 84.
Surviving; The wife; four brothers, Edwards, Robert, and Paul, all of Burlington, Earl Bacher, Lakewood, Calif., two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Jennings, New London, and Mrs. Esther Griswold, Chicago, Ill; a cousin, Mabel Rutherford, Burlington
Funeral: Saturday, 1:30 pm, Elliott-Lunning chapel; Rev. John Siegler; Aspen Grove cemetery. A heart fund memorial has been established.
