Obituary
Ms. Dorothy "Dot" Maylene Kennedy, 85, of Burlington died at 12:55 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2015, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born May 7, 1930 in Burlington, Dorothy was the daughter of Oscar Richard and Emma (Oetken) Carlson. She married Charles Richard Kennedy and they later divorced.
Ms. Kennedy worked in production at I.A.A.P. for over thirty years, retiring in 1995. She was of the Christian faith. In her earlier years, Dot was always on the hunt for a great bargain, spending many a Saturday going to local auctions! She especially loved making and eating good food, and nobody has ever been able to duplicate her famous broccoli cheese casserole! Spending time with family, and especially her great grandchildren brought her much happiness and joy.
Survivors include one son, Scott (Robin) Kennedy of Burlington; one daughter, Sandra Jackson of West Burlington; five grandchildren, Kyle Jackson (Norwalk), Erica (Wayne) Thomson of Burlington, Melissa (Kyle) Williamson of Fort Madison, and Chris and Curtis Simpson of Burlington; six great grandchildren, Rocky, Bianca and Vanessa Thomson, and Isabel, Thomas and Synfony Williamson; one brother, Richard (Marion) Carlson of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Steven Kennedy and David "Red" Kennedy; one grandson, Troy Jackson; four sisters, Betty Seaton, Helen Carlson, Geraldine Rosenberg and Bernice Carlson; and two brothers, Leroy Carlson and Delbert "Til" Carlson.
The graveside funeral service and interment for Ms. Kennedy will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 17th at Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Friends may call from 12:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 16th at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House. Her absence already leaves a void in our lives, and we will miss her immensely. We love you mom, grandma, and you'll forever be in our memories and in our hearts.
