Winifred Kamman, 97, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab, Mediapolis, Iowa, on Sunday, July 12, 2015.
Born on October 4, 1917 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she was the daughter of Harry and Louise Hacker Bothamley. She married Francis “Frank” Wayne Kamman on August 2, 1944 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He died on August 14, 1993.
Winifred earned a BA at Western Michigan. She was a homemaker, court reporter and business teacher. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed book clubs. She also enjoyed flower gardening, caring for her yard and traveling. She was a former member of the Burlington Golf Club where she shot her first hole-in-one at the age of 80. Winifred loved singing and was a member of the Silver Singers. She volunteered for numerous organizations, including the Heart Fund and the Norman Circle. As a pastime she enjoyed knitting. Knitting hats for infants at the hospital continued to be important to her up until her death. She was a member of, and on the selection committee and numerous other committees, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
She is survived by one son, Richard (Peggy Garvin) Kamman of Washington, North Carolina; one daughter, Patricia Macke of Fayetteville, Arkansas; three grandsons, Greg (Desiree) Kamman of Eagan, Minnesota, Chris (Cheryl) Kamman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jonnie (Ashley) Macke of Dallas, Texas; two granddaughters, Kristina (Steve) O’Hare of Marietta, Georgia, and Mandy Macke of Fayetteville, Arkansas; eight great-grandchildren, Mitch, Courtney, Madison, Cassidy, Brody, Nolan, Asa and Eli; one sister, Donna Bauer of Encino, California; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, Lois Bothamley and one grandson, Robert J. Macke.
The memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 625 N. 6th St., Burlington, Iowa. Allan Egly will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends in Prugh’s Chapel on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 until 3:30 pm. A memorial has been established for Local Meals on Wheels. Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service.
