E. Kenneth "Chief" Jones, 66, of Burlington, died at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born April 27, 1941, in Cambria, he was the son of Emery K. and Emma E. Miner Jones. On August 25, 1959, he married Ruth Ann Holst in Burlington. They later divorced. Mr. Jones was a route salesman for Miller Beauty Supply and Wonder Bread. He was a 1959 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a past member of N.R.A. and Ducks Unlimited. He belonged to Yarmouth Gun Club, Prairie Hunters, Shoquoquon Boat Club, and was the founder of the K-14 Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and trapshooter. Survivors include two sons, Kirk Jones and Mark Jones, both of Creede, Colo.; two daughters, Sheila Eversmeyer and Shelly Holsteen, both of Wapello; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, William Jones of Burlington; three sisters, Peggy Davies of Sparks, Nev., Margaret Applegarth of Burlington, and Mary Chiaramonte of Waukee; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. The body has been cremated. The funeral for Mr. Jones will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Chapel of Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dean Graver officiating. Following the service, there will be a Celebration of Life at Shoquoquon Boat Club. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and Shoquoquon Boat Club.
